                     THE LADIES

                     THE LADIES

Lauren Talanian: Lauren and I met in college, we played basketball together and lived in the same dorm. DCrew!! She has a million skills but my favorite is her ability to make everyone around her experience new things and enjoy themselves to the fullest. We may initially appear to be opposites attracting: Lauren is blond, Lauren has the opposite of a “resting bitch face,” Lauren is bubbly, Lauren is a planner extraordinaire. But when it comes down to it, no one brings out any better in me, which has got to be among the best traits in a friend. On top of that, we both like food and singing and dancing and parties and we both hate challenges!

Andrea Champagne: Andrea and I met in 7th grade. For details, ask Andrea. Her memory of my life is way better than my own. Andrea is the best thing that ever happened to our high school (which is dead to us) and she took me along for the ride. She once showed up to my house on my birthday dressed as a Pink Flamingo and once hid in my locker at school, jumping out and sending me flying across the hallway in shock. Teachers even referred to me with the “Greysquirrel” nickname she had given me. Since then, we remain connected and always will. If you need someone to keep it real, make you laugh and give you a break for the first 2 times you fail at the callback, she’s your one. Yes, we are different: Andrea is the most creative and talented person I know. She’s the McGyver of all things theatric. While no one wants me near a stage, we both can get lost in a good TV show (Everwood!) and we both are still waiting to plan that RV trip to the Olympics.

Nura Farah: Picture it: summer before college and I receive a mailing that says my freshman year roommate’s address is ‘Doha Central Bank, PO Box 1234.” And as one might expect from that information, she indeed turned out to be royalty ;). Nura is one of the best people on this planet. From watching sports, eating late night snacks, impromptu movie nights to cross country road trips, European tours and visits Down Under, no one person in my life has been more good for my soul. I don’t see Nura enough anymore but we’ve planned to eventually live together on a commune and I can’t wait. We are alike in so many ways, with so many common interests. How we’re different, you ask? Nura is way smarter than me and has no temper, she always keeps it together like milk and cocoa puffs.

Erin DeMartini: I can’t tell you most of the stories about Erin and I because this is a family friendly website but let me just say this: ultimate partner in crime. Erin and I met in much the same way Micheál and I did- our eyes met in a flash of knowing light from across a bar. After that, she and I were connected at the hip. Erin is as close to a sister as I’ve ever had and many people assumed we were, in fact. We tended to be creatures of habit, we found our favorites and settled in, making all sorts of friends along the way. Our similarities are many: beer preferences, backup karaoke singing, marathon game watching sessions, early morning Whole Foods check-ins, putting GDMs in their place and of course our mutual respect and admiration for Marta. Differences? this lady can run circles around me and is a master at lining up the rounds but steering clear of the racing...the Don King of Car Bombs, if you will.

Anahita LaTorra: One of the best compliments I ever received was being confused for Anahita once. I’m pretty sure that person must have had horrible vision, forgotten their bifocals and was peering around a corner, through a hailstorm while fending off a pack of attacking rodents. But I’ll take it :) At first glance, you might not realize that this girl packs a punch. A serious punch. Smart, strong, intuitive and funny as all get out. Pay attention though, because if you’re not on your game, you’ll miss it. Her skills in the kitchen put me to shame (that paella!). But despite our first couple decades growing up a ways apart, we have similar outlooks on life and the world. Thankfully, medical school brought us together. If it weren’t for Ricky Baby and Micheál, the invite might have had her name on it ;). Instead, we will have our Fausty reunions and of course, thankfully, we will always have The Mansion.
